Beowulf

Beowulf PosterTo bring in the new year we are happy to be presenting a version of the classic tale of Beowulf.

It is 507 A.D. King Hrothgar, played by Anthony Hopkins, and his people are being terrorized by the monster Grendel. Hrothgar puts out a call for a brave man to slay the monster. After some months, Beowulf, played by Ray Winstone, responds with his band of soldiers. Beowulf kills Grendel, but then, rather than killing Grendel's mother, played by Angelina Jolie, he has a tryst with her. A new curse is laid upon the land, a curse he must someday face.

Beowulf is directed by Robert Zemeckis, who also worked on Polar Express. He uses some of the performance capture techniques that he used in that film to create realistic animation scenes. The film is graphic, and not suitable for young children.

Enchanted (2nd Week)

Merry Christmas to each and every one of you! We had a wonderful holiday with our family and hope you did, too.

Enchanted PosterThis is a reminder that we will be holding Enchanted over through New Year's Day.

In Enchanted we find out what happens when the world of fairy tales, complete with princesses, princes, evil stepmothers, and helpful wildlife meets the world of today, New York City to be exact.

The beautiful princess Giselle meets and falls in love with Edward, the prince of her dreams. Upset by the romance because she sees it as a threat to her crown, the prince's evil step-mother uses her magic to have Giselle thrown from the enchanted world of the fairy tale into modern New York. Giselle has to survive our world with its apparent lack of "happily ever after" and make her way home again to her true love.

As usual at this time of the year, we are running extended hours with shows Wednesday evening and Thursday evening in addition to our normal weekend hours. Take advantage of the school break and come in to enjoy some fun, the family, and enchantment.

Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium

Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium PosterThe weekend of December 14 we will be showing Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium.

Mr. Magorium (played by Dustin Hoffman) is 243 years old. He has been running his toy store, a magical place where the fish in the mobile are real, balsa wood dinosaurs play frisbee, and the bouncing balls are always trying to get away, for the past 100 years.

Mr. Magorium has just worn out his last pair of favorite shoes. Since he originally bought enough shoes to last a lifetime, he knows he is about to die. He hires an accountant to find out how much the toy store is worth before he hands it all over to his manager, Molly (played by Natalie Portman). But Molly and the store, which is quite capable of throwing a temper tantrum in a class by itself, have other ideas.
