Defiance

February 26, 2009 10:17am - Defiance PosterThe weekend of February 27, 2009 - March 1, 2009 we will be showing Defiance, starring Daniel Craig, Liev Schreiber, and Jamie Bell. In 1941 the Nazis occupied Belarus. The Bielskis lived in Nowogrodek, which the Nazis turned into a Jewish Ghetto. Most of the Bielski family were killed in the occupation. Four brothers, who fled to the woods they had roamed while they were growing up, survived. Tortured by remorse, Tuvia, the eldest brother, swears to avenge his family by rescuing as many Jews as he can from the Nazis and sheltering them in the forest. Eventually over 1200 men, women, and children are in his charge. This film is based on the true story of the Bielskis and their fight to protect their neighbors and defeat the Nazis.

Inkheart

By reading aloud from a book, he can transport its characters from their worlds, to ours. One night, he releases three characters from the book Inkheart - the evil Capricorn and Basta, and a fire-eater named Dustfinger. Ten years later his daughter, Meggie, discovers her father's talent when they are kidnapped by Capricorn, who wants Mo to read him riches and power. Dustfinger helps the family escape, and they begin a search for another copy of Inkheart so they may read Capricorn, Basta, and Dustfinger back to their rightful world.

When their new guardians forbid Andi and her younger brother, Bruce to have a pet, have to find a new home for their dog, Friday. The kids stumble upon an abandoned hotel and use Bruce's talents as a mechanical genius to transform it into a magical dog-paradise for Friday--and eventually every stray they can find. When barking dogs make the neighbors suspicious, Andi and Bruce use every invention they have to keep their secret.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

The doctors gave him little time to live, but live he did, growing younger by the day. His mother died during his birth and his father abandoned him, leaving him to be raised by Queenie, a black woman and caretaker in an old folks home. Daisy's grandmother lived at the home, and so there Benjamin and Daisy met. Over the years they remained in contact, until in their 40s they reconnect as their ages finally match. But Benjamin continued to grow younger, as Daisy grew older. The story is told through the eyes of Daisy, as her daughter reads aloud her diary as Daisy lies on her deathbed. Please note that due to its length, our showtimes have changed drastically for the presentation of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

Jennifer and John Grogan are a young married couple who decide to start their family by getting a cute, playful Labrador Retriever named Marley. Marley turns into 100 pounds of adventure who eats the furniture, chases the UPS man, drinks from the toilet, and steals the Thanksgiving turkey. Mostly, though, he shows life with its good and its bad. Marley and Me, based on the novel by John Grogan, chronicles the life of Jennifer, John, and their family as seen through their interaction with Marley.
